Some appointments begin with a clear question. Others begin with, “I’m not sure what’s going on, but something doesn’t feel quite right.” That is exactly where general practice fits.
At Coral Coast Doctors, our GPs provide healthcare for individuals and families from our Cannonvale medical centre: from everyday health concerns and preventive care to long-term conditions that need regular follow-up.
General practice covers a surprisingly broad part of healthcare. Your GP can help assess new symptoms, monitor ongoing conditions, discuss preventive healthcare and coordinate other parts of your care when necessary.
Depending on your needs, an appointment may involve:
Assessing a new health concern
Reviewing an ongoing medical condition
Discussing medications
Preventive healthcare
Health assessments
Mental health
Children's healthcare
Women's or men's health
Chronic disease management
Immunisation
Referrals
Test results and follow-up
Lifestyle and weight discussions
Sometimes the outcome is simple. Sometimes the appointment is the first step in working out what happens next.
Healthcare that goes beyond today’s symptom: your medical history, medications, family history, lifestyle and previous investigations all provide important context.
That broader view becomes particularly useful when a health concern is recurring, when several things may be connected or when you are managing your health over a longer period.
How We Help You Stay Well
1. Book / Present Concern
Book online or call reception with what has brought you in.
2. Talk With Your GP
Your doctor asks about your concern, history and medications.
3. Assessment
Examination or testing where your doctor considers it appropriate.
4. Care Plan / Treatment
Treatment, referral or a plan for what happens next.
5. Follow-Up
Test results reviewed and progress discussed as needed.
6. Ongoing Health
Continuing care that builds on what your GP already knows.
Continuity of Care
A Regular GP Can Make Healthcare Simpler
Not every health concern is solved in one appointment. If you live with an ongoing condition, take regular medication or see several healthcare professionals, continuity can become particularly useful. Seeing the same GP where possible means your doctor can become familiar with:
Your medical history
Context that does not have to be repeated each visit.
Previous investigations
Earlier tests and findings kept in view.
Regular medications
Ongoing review of what you are taking.
Specialist care
Coordination with other clinicians involved in your care.
Changes over time
What has and has not worked previously.
Instead of beginning from the start at every appointment, the conversation can build on what your GP already knows.
Family Medicine
Health needs rarely stay the same across a lifetime. Family medicine gives patients a central place to manage those changing needs: our GPs care for patients from newborns and children through to adults and older people.
You do not have to feel unwell to see your GP. Preventive healthcare may include discussions around:
Family medical history
Blood pressure
Lifestyle
Immunisation
Screening
Chronic disease risk
Skin health
General wellbeing
Appropriate health assessments
Women’s Health
There are health concerns people may feel more comfortable discussing with a GP they already know. Our general practice services include women’s healthcare and preventive care across different stages of life. Dr Heba Awad’s supplied professional profile lists women’s health and preventive healthcare among her clinical interests.
You do not need to wait until something becomes difficult to manage before speaking with a GP. Men’s health appointments may involve general health concerns, preventive healthcare, chronic disease, mental wellbeing or other issues affecting day-to-day health.
Our doctors provide general practice for newborns, children and adolescents. Please book a separate appointment for each child who needs to be seen and bring relevant Medicare, health, immunisation or hospital information where applicable.
Regular GP care may involve monitoring your health, reviewing medicines, discussing test results or coordinating care with specialists and allied health professionals. Our doctor profiles show broad experience across chronic disease, including diabetes, cardiovascular conditions and respiratory illness.
Your GP can be a useful first person to speak with about stress, anxiety, mood, sleep, concentration or general emotional wellbeing. Let reception know when booking, because a longer appointment may be more suitable.
A GP health assessment may provide an opportunity to review relevant risk factors, preventive healthcare and areas that may benefit from closer attention. The type of assessment and what is included will depend on your individual circumstances and eligibility.
Immunisation is another important part of preventive general practice. Our doctors can discuss appropriate vaccinations based on age, health circumstances and individual requirements. If you are booking for a particular vaccine, contact reception first so the team can confirm availability, eligibility and any applicable costs.
Eligible Coral Coast Doctors patients may be able to use telehealth when the type of appointment is suitable for remote care. The clinic’s current policy makes telehealth available to eligible patients who have attended the practice in person within the previous 12 months. Some concerns still require physical examination, so your doctor may ask you to attend the Cannonvale clinic.
Every appointment is different, but the process usually begins in the same place: with a conversation. Your doctor may ask about:
What has brought you in
When the concern began
Your medical history
Current medications
Previous tests or treatment
Relevant family history
Other symptoms or changes you have noticed
From there, your GP can discuss whether examination, testing, treatment, follow-up or referral is appropriate. You are encouraged to ask questions: healthcare works better when you understand what is happening and why. Trying to squeeze several complex issues into an appointment designed for one straightforward concern can make it harder to give each issue enough attention.
Our Team
Meet Our General Practitioners
Our GP team brings different backgrounds and clinical interests to general practice.
Eligible Medicare general practice consultations at Coral Coast Doctors are bulk billed where the service is eligible under Medicare. Some procedures, occupational medicals, reports and other services that are not covered by Medicare may have an out-of-pocket fee. If you are unsure what applies to your appointment, ask reception before booking.

How long is an appointment?
A standard appointment at Coral Coast Doctors is 10 minutes and is generally suitable for discussing one straightforward health concern. Please book a longer appointment for multiple health concerns; mental health concerns or a Mental Health Treatment Plan; chronic disease management or a complex medical problem; or detailed forms, assessments, procedures or comprehensive health checks. Selecting the appropriate appointment length gives your doctor enough time to provide thorough and safe care. Please speak with reception if you are unsure which appointment type to book.
Are same-day appointments available?
Yes. Same-day appointments are available when capacity allows. You can check current availability and book online through HotDoc, or call reception on 1300 272 897. Please tell reception if your concern is urgent so the team can help arrange the most appropriate care. Coral Coast Doctors is not an emergency department.
Do you offer telehealth appointments?
Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for eligible patients who have attended Coral Coast Doctors in person within the previous 12 months. Some health concerns require a physical examination, so your doctor may recommend an in-person appointment. For a child's telehealth consultation, the child must be present with their parent or carer during the appointment.
How do I request a prescription?
Please contact reception or book an appointment when you need a new or repeat prescription. Your GP must review whether the medication remains safe and appropriate for you. Some prescriptions require an in-person assessment, recent tests or ongoing monitoring. Please arrange your appointment before your medication runs out, as prescriptions cannot always be issued immediately.
How do I receive my test results?
Please arrange a follow-up appointment to discuss pathology, imaging or other investigation results with your doctor. Reception staff may be able to confirm whether a result has arrived, but they cannot interpret the result or provide clinical advice. Your doctor will explain what the result means, whether any treatment is required and when further testing or follow-up should occur. Please ensure your telephone number and contact details are current.
How can I request or transfer medical records?
Please contact reception to request access to your medical records or to arrange a transfer to another healthcare provider. We will require written consent and may need to verify your identity before releasing information. Where records relate to a child or another person, appropriate authority or consent must be provided. Reception will explain the processing time, secure transfer arrangements and any applicable administrative fee.
Do you see babies and children?
Yes. Our doctors provide healthcare for patients of all ages, from newborns and children through to adults and older people. Please book a separate appointment for each child who needs to be seen. Bring the child's Medicare card and any relevant health, immunisation or hospital records. The child must be present during both in-person and telehealth consultations.
What can I see a GP about?

Can I choose which GP I see?
You can choose from available doctors when booking, subject to individual GP consulting schedules.
Can I see the same doctor again?
Where availability allows, you may continue seeing the same GP, which can be particularly useful for ongoing healthcare.
Do you offer same-day GP appointments?
Same-day appointments may be available when capacity allows.
Are GP appointments bulk billed?
Eligible general practice consultations are bulk billed where Medicare requirements and service eligibility are met. Some services may have a fee.
Do you provide telehealth?
Yes, for eligible patients where telehealth is appropriate. Current policy requires eligible patients to have attended the practice in person within the previous 12 months.
Not sure which service you need?
You do not have to diagnose the problem yourself before booking. If you are unsure where to start, book a GP appointment or speak with our reception team on 1300 272 897. Your doctor can assess what is happening and help you work out the next step.
