Frequently Asked Questions
Find clear answers to common questions about appointments, billing, telehealth, prescriptions, family care and clinic services at Coral Coast Doctors.
Appointments and billing
- Do you bulk bill?
- Coral Coast Doctors offers bulk billed consultations for Medicare-eligible patients where the service is eligible under Medicare. Some services may not be eligible for bulk billing or may attract an out-of-pocket fee.
- How long is an appointment?
- A standard appointment at Coral Coast Doctors is 10 minutes and is generally suitable for discussing one straightforward health concern. Please book a longer appointment for multiple health concerns; mental health concerns or a Mental Health Treatment Plan; chronic disease management or a complex medical problem; or detailed forms, assessments, procedures or comprehensive health checks. Selecting the appropriate appointment length gives your doctor enough time to provide thorough and safe care. Please speak with reception if you are unsure which appointment type to book.
- Are same-day appointments available?
- Yes. Same-day appointments are available when capacity allows. You can check current availability and book online through HotDoc, or call reception on 1300 272 897. Please tell reception if your concern is urgent so the team can help arrange the most appropriate care. Coral Coast Doctors is not an emergency department.
- Do you offer telehealth appointments?
- Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for eligible patients who have attended Coral Coast Doctors in person within the previous 12 months. Some health concerns require a physical examination, so your doctor may recommend an in-person appointment. For a child's telehealth consultation, the child must be present with their parent or carer during the appointment.
- Do you see international visitors and accept private health insurance?
- Yes. Coral Coast Doctors welcomes international visitors, tourists, overseas students and temporary residents. We accept most private health insurance, including many Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) policies. Please bring your insurance membership card or policy details and photo identification. Coverage and direct-billing arrangements vary between insurers and policies. We recommend confirming your eligibility with your insurer or contacting reception before your appointment. Any fees not covered by your insurer will be payable by the patient.
Prescriptions, results and records
- How do I request a prescription?
- Please contact reception or book an appointment when you need a new or repeat prescription. Your GP must review whether the medication remains safe and appropriate for you. Some prescriptions require an in-person assessment, recent tests or ongoing monitoring. Please arrange your appointment before your medication runs out, as prescriptions cannot always be issued immediately.
- How do I receive my test results?
- Please arrange a follow-up appointment to discuss pathology, imaging or other investigation results with your doctor. Reception staff may be able to confirm whether a result has arrived, but they cannot interpret the result or provide clinical advice. Your doctor will explain what the result means, whether any treatment is required and when further testing or follow-up should occur. Please ensure your telephone number and contact details are current.
- How can I request or transfer medical records?
- Please contact reception to request access to your medical records or to arrange a transfer to another healthcare provider. We will require written consent and may need to verify your identity before releasing information. Where records relate to a child or another person, appropriate authority or consent must be provided. Reception will explain the processing time, secure transfer arrangements and any applicable administrative fee.
Family and occupational health services
- Do you provide occupational and pre-employment medicals?
- Yes. Coral Coast Doctors provides occupational health services, including pre-employment medical assessments, fitness-for-work assessments, WorkCover consultations and occupational health reviews. Please call reception before booking so we can confirm the required appointment length, documents, testing and fees. Bring any employer paperwork, photo identification, a current medication list and any glasses or hearing aids you use.
- Do you see babies and children?
- Yes. Our doctors provide healthcare for patients of all ages, from newborns and children through to adults and older people. Please book a separate appointment for each child who needs to be seen. Bring the child's Medicare card and any relevant health, immunisation or hospital records. The child must be present during both in-person and telehealth consultations.
Clinic access and policies
- What is your cancellation policy?
- Please cancel or reschedule your appointment at least two hours before the scheduled time. Giving adequate notice allows the appointment to be offered to another patient who needs care. Please contact reception for current fees and billing information.
- Is the clinic accessible?
- Yes. Coral Coast Doctors provides wheelchair access and is located inside Whitsunday Shopping Centre in Cannonvale. Onsite pathology and nearby pharmacy, radiology and allied health services are available. Please call reception before your appointment if you require mobility assistance or have another accessibility need.
- How can I book?
- You can book online through HotDoc, call reception on 1300 272 897, or visit the practice in person.
- Can I request a longer appointment?
- Yes. Please tell reception when booking if you need a longer appointment so the appropriate appointment length can be arranged.
- Do you offer interpreter assistance?
- Yes. Professional interpreters can be arranged free of charge. Please advise reception when booking your appointment.
- How can I contact my doctor?
- Doctors cannot take telephone calls while consulting with other patients. If you need to discuss a medical concern or require advice, please book an appointment so your doctor can give you their full attention. Reception may recommend speaking with a practice nurse where appropriate.
- How do appointment reminders work?
- The practice may send reminders for preventative healthcare. Your doctor will seek your permission to include you in the practice reminder system or relevant reminder registers. Tell your doctor or reception if you do not wish to receive reminders.
- How can I provide feedback or make a complaint?
- Please contact the Practice Manager by calling 1300 272 897 or emailing reception@coralcoastdoctors.com.au. If the matter cannot be resolved within the practice, you may contact the Office of the Health Ombudsman or the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, where relevant.
- How do I request prescriptions or referrals?
- Prescriptions and referrals require an appointment. Please contact reception or book an appointment with your doctor.
After-hours care
- What should I do if I need care after hours?
- Current appointment availability can be checked online through HotDoc. Coral Coast Doctors is not an emergency department. When the clinic is closed: for non-emergency health advice in Queensland, call 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84, where registered nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week; for a serious or life-threatening illness or injury, call Triple Zero (000) or attend the nearest emergency department.
