Tell Us What You Need Assessed — Not Just “Book a Medical”
Different roles carry different requirements. An assessment for a physically demanding position may need a different approach from one for a desk-based role, and a pre-employment medical is different from a fitness-for-work review or a consultation relating to a workplace injury.
Providing that information early makes the assessment easier for the worker, the employer and the clinic.
It helps if your business can tell us:
- The role being assessed
- Relevant work duties
- Why the assessment is required
- The form or report you need completed
- Any testing requested
- Who is authorised to receive the documentation
- Any relevant deadline

1. Send Us Your Requirements
Provide the role, employer form, reason for assessment and any required testing or reporting instructions.
2. We Review the Request
The practice determines which appointment type is appropriate and whether the requested assessment can be provided.
3. The Candidate Attends
The worker attends with the documents and information required for the assessment.
4. Documentation Follows
Where a form or report is required, it is completed in line with the assessment, consent and confirmed reporting arrangements.
Sending Someone for a Pre-Employment Medical?
The smoother the handover, the smoother the appointment. Where possible, provide the candidate with:
- The correct assessment form
- Position or role details
- Required testing
- Reporting instructions
- Employer contact information
- Any relevant billing instructions
Candidates should also bring photo identification, current medication information and any glasses or hearing aids they normally use where relevant.
Explore Pre-Employment MedicalsThe Assessment Should Match the Role
A generic health check may not answer the question your business actually needs answered. If a position has particular physical, functional or safety requirements, supplying those requirements gives the doctor better occupational context.
That means your request should focus on the role rather than simply asking whether someone is “healthy”. The purpose is to address relevant occupational-health information, not to turn a work medical into a general examination of everything in an employee’s medical history.
What Testing Can Employers Request?
Some occupational medicals may require additional testing depending on the role. Possible assessment areas may include:
Drug & Alcohol Testing
Spirometry
Audiometry
Vision Testing
Musculoskeletal Assessment
ECG
Functional Testing
Include your testing requirements with your enquiry. Our team can confirm what is available and the appropriate assessment pathway.
Recruiting Several People at Once?
If your business is hiring several candidates, running a recruitment intake or has recurring occupational-medical requirements, contact the clinic before sending individuals through separate bookings. This gives the practice an opportunity to understand:
- Number of candidates or employees
- Type of assessment
- Required documentation
- Proposed timing
- Reporting needs
- Billing requirements
Reports That Answer the Right Question
A medical report is only useful if it addresses what the employer actually needs. Before arranging an assessment, tell us:
- What documentation is required
- Whether you have a standard employer form
- What occupational question needs to be addressed
- Who should receive the completed documentation
- Whether there is a deadline
One-Off Requirement or Ongoing Relationship?
Some businesses only need a single pre-employment medical. Others have ongoing requirements across recruitment, workforce health and return-to-work situations. If your organisation has recurring occupational-health requirements, contact us to discuss what you need and the arrangements currently available.
Fitness-for-Work Referrals
When an employer needs medical information about a worker’s current capacity, the referral should explain the practical work question. Useful information may include:
- Role duties
- Physical or functional demands
- Reason for assessment
- Current restrictions if known
- Relevant employer documentation
- What information the organisation needs returned
Privacy in Employer-Requested Medicals
Occupational healthcare creates a different situation from a standard GP appointment because another organisation may have requested the assessment. That does not mean an employer automatically receives unrestricted access to a worker’s entire medical history.
Occupational-health reporting follows the clinic’s consent, privacy and authorised-recipient process. If you have questions about what information will be provided after an assessment, ask before the report is completed.
